A recent report publicised by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) recommended 35 cities in the mainland China, to British companies seeking international business opportunities. One of the cities that made this list was Chengdu and was the sole entry from cities in the south western province of Sichuan.

With a population of over 11 million, Chengdu is a booming economic and cultural centre of South Western China with many historical landmarks. The city has also gained international diplomatic recognition as many countries including the US, the UK, France, Germany and South Korea have all set up consulates in the city.

The report suggests UK enterprises find considerable business opportunities in these cities and is the recommendation list as a result of a comprehensive study of 274 cities in China. Chengdu is a city with an extensive and highly qualified labor force, due to the large number of Universities specialising in Hi-Tech industries. There is also strong support from the government on science and education development together with strong government policy support for education and industrial growth.
