Why Chengdu? http://www.chengduhitech.co.uk/ChengDu_City.asp
Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan province, is located in Southwest China. With a population of 11.25 million and a total area of 12.4 thousand sqkm, it is a booming economic and cultural centre in Southwest China, and is also a city with abundant historical relics, natural resources and leisure lifestyle.
As 'an important central city in Southwest China' granted by the State Council in 1999, Chengdu has attracted the US, Germany, UK, France, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand and Pakistan to set up consulates in the city, ranking the third in terms of the number of foreign consulates hosted among the Chinese cities, next only to Shanghai and Guangzhou. To develop international cooperation, Chengdu has established twinning city relationship with 11 foreign cities from the US, Canada, France, Sweden, Japan, South Korea, etc..
Supported by the opening-up policy and the strategy of 'developing the western region' of the Chinese government, Chengdu has been experiencing rapid economic growth. In 2008, Chengdu's GDP reached RMB 390.1 billion, surpasses USD $4600 per capita, with a growth rate of 12.1% despite of the global downturn and 5.12 earthquake.
As a city famous for its tourism and its historical culture, Chengdu boasts Three-Kingdom-Period Culture, Jinsha Relic, Dujiangyan Irrigation System and other historical sites. Given abundant tourist resources, Chengdu was honoured the "Best Tourism City of China" by the World Tourism Organization and the National Tourism Administration in 2006.
Chengdu's favourable policies, vast consumer market, low-cost labour resources as well as the pleasant living conditions have made the city one of the best investment locations in China.
